The magnificent Empty Quarter in Dhofar, Oman, where the dunes are like a raging sea and the silence is audible; cycling slowly through the stunning oasis of Al Hamra, with its running water and tens of thousands of date palms, the contrast with the surrounding arid plain couldn’t be greater…these unforgettable memories, and so many others, after 20 years of travel through the Middle East have continued to feed my insatiable sense of discovery for the region. There’s always more to do – visiting old friends and learning more about the people, history, and culture.

I’m an adventurer at heart and historian by training, and I’ve been crisscrossing the Sultanate of Oman in the footsteps of some of Arabia’s great explorers for two decades.  From dhow cruises through the beautiful marine fjords of the Musandam peninsula, to hiking in the striking, jagged mountains of the Jabal Akhdar. I’ve visited long-vanished Frankincense ports and explored the Empty Quarter – one of the greatest sand deserts on Earth – Oman is haunting beautiful and one of the most intriguing parts of Arabia. My creativity, experience and contacts in the Sultanate are second-to-none.
